KiwiRail is a state owned enterprise that manages the rail and ferry businesses owned by the New Zealand government. KiwiRail is responsible for management of the operating divisions which make up the entire rail and Cook Strait ferry services.

The company was formed on the 1 October 2008, bringing together all parts of the publicly owned railway business under one umbrella organisation.

This followed the Government’s purchase of the rail and ferry businesses of Toll Holdings on the 1st July 2008 and the announcement of a new brand name - KiwiRail.

KiwiRail network

KiwiRail Network manages and maintains 4,000kms of railway track, bridges and tunnels.

KiwiRail Network also manages the signals that control the safe movement of trains around New Zealand.

Kiwirail Passenger

Tranz Scenic is the long-distance passenger train brand of KiwiRail, providing New Zealanders and international visitors with comfortable, relaxing travel through some of the most spectacular scenery in the World.

Experience Tranz Scenic's world famous train journeys: TranzAlpine, Overlander andTranzCoastal Tranz Metro is the name for passenger train services in the Wellington area.

With around 35,000 passenger trips per day, Tranz Metro provides popular commuter services to many parts of the city and outlying districts such as the Kapiti Coast and Wairarapa.

KiwiRail Mechanical services our locomotives and rolling stock at Hutt workshops and builds new rolling stock at Hillside Engineering workshops

KiwiRail interislander

This is a massive project with a project lifespan of at least 3 years, so plenty of “meat on the bone” in this role for the right candidates.
