This is a fantastic opportunity to join a great family owned company as Contracts Manager for the Whanganui / Manawatu Region. This is a busy role so we are seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to oversee the overall management of contracts across the region and report in to the General Manager.

You will be an effective leader with proven ability to drive and motivate your teams to deliver. Along with a successful track record of managing multiple projects within civil construction, earthworks, roading and subdivisions you will also have a strong commercial and business acumen.

Purpose of Position

  • Overall management of contracts

  • Oversee Project Managers and contracts staff including contract administrators

  • Tender evaluation, preparation and submittal

  • Monthly claim preparation, submittal in liaison with accounts / administration staff

  • Overview of Quality and Environmental Systems

  • Liaison with the Engineer / Client

  • Maintenance of the Quality Programme (TQSI). If a Quality Manager has not been appointed, then the role of the Quality Manager will be taken over by the Contracts Manager

  • Assist in Co-ordination of Quality testing off-site

  • Overall management of progress including, where necessary, preparation of a monthly rolling programme which shall show key dates

  • Ordering of major purchase items, set up of task accounts and managing material deliveries

  • Valuation of variation and submitting monthly progress claims

  • Sub-contractor financial control & progress claim assessment

  • Coding and initial approval of Creditor invoices for payment

  • Bonding requirements

  • Contract correspondence, ensuring prompt response to NTC's, VPR's etc.

  • Signing of the Contract Documents

  • Documentation required by the contract (Quality Plan, CEMP etc.) Includes filing and distribution

  • Time extension claims

  • Producer statements

  • Compiling and submission of as-built information, by others

  • Gaining Practical Completion

  • Finalisation of the Contract: obtaining the 'Hit List' through to the issue of the completion certificate for the bond release


Specific Duties

  • Help to promote the client as a progressive company

  • Monitors contractual activities on-sites ensuring quality and production targets etc. are met

  • Liaise with Management on daily contractual issues including changes in scope, variations, delays etc

  • Assist with provision of Project Costing information and non-price attribute requirements for tenders. Provide all assistance required for Tendering

  • Ensure Work Activity sheets are correctly coded, costed and entered into Costing System

  • Lead on compliance matters - e.g. quality systems and processes, as well as environmental matters

  • Clearly communicates with the Operations Manager / Site Supervisor or nominated Person in Charge on contract requirements especially at hand-over

  • Have Claims organised promptly to allow for team review before submission and invoicing

  • Ensure all variations are noted, costed and communicated to client and management accurately

  • Ensure Charge up work is covered - review current process

  • Scheduling and planning of projects, budgeting and cost control, monitoring progress and programme, risk management, general project support

  • Assist Operations Manager on the management of subcontractors and suppliers

  • Liaison with Suppliers, Sub-contractors, and clients

  • Ensure all projects are signed off as complete before moving to another job

  • Develop relationships with clients, consultants and target tender opportunities

  • Liaise with other managers, Supervisors / Foreman to assist with Company goals

  • Assist in maintaining morale and having a positive focus

  • Adhere to the Policies and Procedures outlined in the clients Health and Safety Manual and Quality Management Manual

  • Contribute to the systematic identification and control of hazards, and the continuous quality improvement programme

  • Assist and Participate in training as directed by company
