The company and position

Reporting to the National Head of Design Development, this highly respected and ever growing building / development company require a Senior Design Manager to join them on a permanent basis in Auckland. Their projects range in value from $5-150m and they have never been busier. Salary range is $140-180k depending on experience plus an excellent range of benefits.

It is responsible for all design projects and programme management through site master planning, concept and preliminary design phases and required design management processes through consents into construction onsite. The position will have architect and technicians reporting to it, the continued coaching, mentoring and supervision of staff is a key element of the role.

The job, in effect, is a design delivery role, there is little to no actual design but a design background is certainly required to be successful. Internal relationships for the job reach right across and out of the organisation: senior leadership, senior development, commercial, construction, external consultants and regulatory bodies.

The person and experience required

  • A minimum of 10 years experience in a design position, working for main contractors or developers in New Zealand on large scale projects - $40m as a minimum

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in design, architecture, project or construction management

  • Working knowledge of the NZ Building Code and relevant large residential standards including NZS 3604, and Masterspec experience

  • Conceptual Design and Resource Consent documentation experience

  • Previous project experience must be on large multi-use developments e.g. large residential, multilevel, complex builds

  • Strong experience of running design teams, including mentoring and supervising

  • Value engineering on design and build projects

  • Highly desirable: LBP, Revit, Sketch Up, 3D Studiomax presentation skills
