Project Engineer Jobs

How to Enter

Project Engineers are often professionals with experience in both project management and construction or engineering management. With that in mind, many Oil & Gas employers in New Zealand look for candidates with experience or qualifications in both. For example, a professional with a Bachelor of Engineering or Engineering Technology degree and a certificate from the Project Management Institute would be suited for this type of role.

Typical Responsibilities

The typical responsibilities of a Project Engineer can include some or all of the following:

  • Forecasting and planning engineering resources and activities for projects
  • Liaising between Project Management and Engineering teams
  • Managing performance of third-party vendors and suppliers
  • Calculating and reporting financial costs of projects
  • Managing quality control processes
  • Provide training to engineering team when required

Project Engineers develop significant experience in both Project Management and Engineering and there have several career paths available to them, including becoming more senior in Project Engineering or Project Management.
