How to Enter
To become a Plumber in New Zealand’s Trade & Industrial industry, you will need to complete an apprenticeship and obtain a National Certificate in Plumbing (Level 4) and be registered with the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drain Layers Board.
As a Plumber, you can expect to do some or all of the following job responsibilities:
- Measuring, cutting or shaping, installing and sealing pipes and fittings
- Installing and maintaining hot water and heating systems such as boilers, heaters and pumps
- Requesting permission from council to conduct work where required
- Installing fixtures such as toilets and water tanks
With training, a trainee Plumber could quickly become certified and be allowed to set up their own business or train apprentices. In addition, they can also move into consultancy or teaching-based roles.
