Typical Responsibilities

• Identifying and understanding client’s or Manager’s requirements
• Conducting investigations of existing systems and preparing reports based on findings
• Reporting on the risks to safety and the environment of planned work
• Preparing plans and drawings of machines or machine parts
• Supervising the building, installation, repair and replacement of systems
• Conducting field work where required
• Reviewing and testing new systems
• Estimating costs for jobs

Progression

Many Mechanical Engineers decide to move into management or senior-level roles as they gain experience. However, other options include moving into Project Management as a Project Engineer, or join an engineering consultancy firm. roles as they gain experience over time. Alternatively, Engineers can also choose to specialise further within their field, such as becoming a HVAC, Energy Resources or even Robotics Engineer.
