​How to Enter

To improve your chances of securing a role as a Leading Hand in the Trade & Industrial sector in New Zealand, it’s recommended to have several years’ experience in a supervisory role. Holding a trade qualification, such as Certificate in Carpentry, can also be greatly beneficial.


Typical Responsibilities

The typical responsibilities of a Leading Hand can include some or all of the following:


  • Assisting, guiding and training factory or work site personnel
  • Managing work site or factor in Manager’s absence
  • Conducting quality control of work
  • Maintaining factory or site equipment and machinery
  • Providing administration and training functions
  • Ensuring Health & Safety policies are being adhered to


Progression

Given enough experience, a Leading Hand could progress their career into management and take on a Site Manager, Factory Manager or General Manager role. They could also choose to further specialise in their field and work as a consultant or specialist.


Salary Range

38K – 50K per annum (NZD)
