How to Enter

When hiring a Manufacturing Manager, many New Zealand employers will be looking for candidates who have previous working experience in a manufacturing plant in a supervisor or managerial role. In addition, some businesses may prefer people with relevant tertiary qualifications.

Typical Responsibilities

Manufacturing Managers may be expected to do some or all of the following job responsibilities:

Setting factory goals, timetables, and budgets
Reporting on factory productivity, efficiency and factory
Deciding what materials, supplies, machinery and equipment are needed to meet manufacturing goals
Ordering materials and supplies with vendors
Evaluating operational processes and creating reports on results, including suggested changes
Maintaining, testing, improving and deciding when to repair or replace equipment and machinery
Developing, training and assisting factory staff
Meeting and liaising with clients and customers
Overseeing factory safety standards and risks

Progression

Manufacturing Managers may choose to take up a similar position in another industry or specialise further within Manufacturing Management, such as Manufacturing Technology, Quality Control or Health & Safety.
