​How to Enter

After extensive years working as a Registered Architect, talented professionals can then progress their careers by becoming a Principle Architect. Aside from experience, other minimum requirements include being registered with New Zealand Registered Architects Board, which requires continuing professional development to maintain.


Typical Responsibilities

Principle Architects may be expected to do some or all of the following:


  • Analysing clients’ requirements
  • Leading a team of junior to senior Architects and Architectural Graduates
  • Identifying local authority requirements and constraints
  • Drawing designs and schematics for construction and development projects
  • Identifying what building materials need to be used
  • Advising what building procedures that need to be followed and project costs to client
  • Applying for building permits and resource consents
  • Overseeing construction, conducting site inspections and ensure developments comply with plans, budgets, authority constraints and budgets
  • Planning interior and exterior spaces and working with Landscaping Architect


Progression

Interior Designers can progress their careers by moving into a management position or start their own design business. Alternatively, they can also choose to specialise in Commercial or Contract Interior Design, or Residential Interior Design.


Salary Range

80K – 120K per annum (NZD)
