Join a professional team delivering major civil infrastructure and earthworks projects across the Northland region. You'll operate excavators and other civil plant to carry out excavation, site preparation, trenching, and material handling, working alongside experienced crews to safely deliver high-quality work on a long-term project.

This role offers consistent, ongoing work with opportunities for career development. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate excavators and other civil construction machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Excavate and prepare foundations, trenches, and access tracks in accordance with project requirements.
  • Load, move, and place soil, rock, aggregate, and other construction materials.
  • Carry out site preparation and general earthworks activities
  • Operate heavy machinery safely around workers, equipment, and active construction sites.
  • Complete daily pre-start inspections and basic maintenance checks to ensure machinery remains in safe working condition.
  • Work closely with supervisors and site crews to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Follow all health and safety procedures, site rules, and company standards.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years' experience operating excavators or heavy civil machinery.
  • Experience working on civil construction, earthworks, roading, or infrastructure projects.
  • Competent operating excavators and heavy machinery up to 50 tonnes.
  • Experience with excavation, trenching, loading trucks, and material placement.
  • Strong understanding of safe operating practices on construction sites.
  • Reliable, safety-focused, and willing to assist with general labouring duties when required.

Requirements

  • Current WTR (Wheels, Tracks and Rollers) endorsement.
  • NZ Class 2-5 licence essential (Class 4 or 5 highly advantageous).
  • Current Site Safe or ConstructSafe certification preferred.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
  • Physically fit with a strong work ethic.
  • Willing to travel or work away from home when required.
