Based in Te Anau, you’ll have stewardship of a truly diverse and iconic asset portfolio from the historic TSS Earnslaw, to a fleet of large vessels, on-road vehicles, and critical infrastructure across Fiordland and Queenstown. This is an opportunity to shape the long-term performance, resilience, and sustainability of one of New Zealand’s most respected tourism operators.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Chief Tourism Officer, you will own and lead RealNZ’s Tourism Asset Management Strategy, ensuring long-term value, safety, compliance, and performance across all asset classes.
Your scope will include:
- Strategic stewardship of maritime assets, vehicle fleets, and operational infrastructure
- Leadership and continuous improvement of the Tourism Asset Management Strategy
- Ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant operations that underpin world-class guest experiences
- Oversight of capital programmes including major renewals, electrification initiatives, and infrastructure upgrades
- Ownership and optimisation of the Maximo Enterprise Asset Management system
- Leadership of a multi-disciplinary team across asset management, engineering, and delivery
- Governance of CAPEX and OPEX planning, procurement, risk, and investment prioritisation
- Championing sustainability and carbon transition across fleet and infrastructure planning
What We’re Looking For
This role requires a strategic asset management leader, technically grounded and commercially astute, with experience in asset-heavy environments.
You’ll bring:
- A tertiary qualification in engineering (mechanical, civil, marine, or related discipline)
- Proven leadership of large, complex asset portfolios, ideally across multiple asset classes
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing enterprise-level asset management frameworks, including lifecycle planning and risk-based investment
- Strong understanding of maintenance strategies, capital planning, and long-term asset performance
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and aligning asset strategy with organisational goals
- Sound commercial judgement across CAPEX/OPEX, procurement, and governance
- Ability to communicate complex technical and investment decisions clearly to senior stakeholders
- Maritime or marine exposure is advantageous, but transferable asset management experience from infrastructure, transport, utilities, industrial or tourism environments is equally valid
