RobLawMax Recruitment is proud to be partnering with MOVe Logistics to appoint a General Manager for its Specialist Lifting & Transport division, comprising Tranzcarr Heavy Haulage and Machinery Movers.
These are two well-established businesses with a strong reputation for delivering the complex and specialised projects that most transport companies cannot. From transporting transformers and wind turbine components to relocating heavy machinery and industrial equipment, their work supports key projects across New Zealand's energy, infrastructure and industrial sectors.
With annual revenue of approximately $20 million, around 50 staff, and a strong track record of profitability, the business is set up for continued success. As the long-serving General Manager steps away, an outstanding opportunity exists for a proven leader to build on this solid base, drive future growth and lead the next chapter for this respected specialist transport business.
The role
Reporting to the Group CEO and sitting on the Executive Leadership Team, you'll be responsible for the strategy, people, performance and growth of the business.
You'll be supported by an experienced operational leadership team with deep industry knowledge and customer relationships. While you don't need to be the technical expert in every aspect of heavy lifting or specialist transport, you will need to understand the business, make sound commercial decisions, and provide visible leadership that earns the trust and respect of both customers and the team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing the strategy, business and operational plans to deliver financial targets.
- Leading, developing and supporting the team across the operation.
- Strengthening existing customer relationships while securing new projects to drive sustainable growth.
- Providing oversight of major projects to ensure they are delivered safely, efficiently and profitably.
- Planning investment in specialist fleet and equipment to support future requirements.
- Working closely with the CEO and wider MOVe Group on strategy, reporting and business performance.
- Championing a safety-first culture while fostering engagement, accountability and high performance across the division.
About you
We're seeking a commercially astute and people-focused leader who combines strong business acumen with a practical understanding of operational environments.
You'll be equally comfortable talking to the team in the yard as you are discussing business performance with the CEO or meeting with major customers. Success in the role will require the ability to communicate effectively, build credibility quickly, and bring people with you as you lead the business.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- Senior management experience with responsibility for operational and financial performance.
- Strong commercial capability, including P&L management, business development and successful delivery of growth initiatives.
- Experience leading operational teams in a complex, asset-intensive or project-based environment.
- A sound understanding of health and safety, operational risk management and the importance of getting the job done properly.
- The ability to balance strategic thinking with a practical, hands-on leadership style within a larger corporate group.
Your background might be in heavy haulage, cranes, specialist transport, engineering services, industrial contracting or infrastructure. While direct experience in heavy lifting and transport would be an advantage, we are equally interested in leaders who bring commercial capability, operational leadership experience and a proven ability to grow and develop businesses.
Why MOVe?
Lead a highly regarded business in a specialist market where capability, reputation and relationships matter. With an experienced team and a loyal customer base, the platform for success is already in place.
You'll have the opportunity to build on a proven foundation, with room to bring fresh ideas, develop the team, and identify new initiatives to strengthen and expand the business. You'll have the support of a wider NZX-listed group, direct access to the CEO and the opportunity to influence and shape where the division goes next.
A competitive executive package is on offer, including performance incentives, with flexibility to secure the right person.
