Role Overview

The HVAC Service Technician plays a critical role in delivering high-quality HVAC services and solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, installation, and commissioning of advanced air conditioning and refrigeration systems. This position requires a proactive, technically competent professional who can work independently while maintaining the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and client service

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute routine servicing and repairs on commercial air conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilation systems.
  • Operate and maintain chilled water plant systems, air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, and VRF/VRV systems (Variable Refrigerant Flow/Volume).
  • Install, commission, and maintain process cooling equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve technical faults in HVAC system components, including compressors, fan motors, and refrigerant circuits.
  • Interpret construction drawings, technical datasheets, and system specifications to ensure compliance with design requirements.
  • Utilize hand tools safely and effectively, including welding ACR copper tubing for installations and repairs.
  • Conduct system pressure testing and evacuation to ensure operational efficiency and safety.
  • Undertake basic electrical tasks associated with HVAC systems, including isolation, disconnection, and reconnection of equipment.
  • Configure and calibrate temperature control systems, including interfacing with Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety procedures, actively participate in toolbox talks, site inductions, and H&S reporting, and maintain compliance with site-specific protocols

Qualifications

  • NZQA Level 4 RAC Technician (New Zealand Certificate in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning – Trade).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of post-qualification experience in HVAC systems servicing and maintenance.

Skills and Attributes

  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work autonomously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on client engagement.
  • High standard of workmanship, professionalism, and personal presentation.
  • Willingness and availability for on-call and after-hours duties as required

Employment Details

  • Location: Auckland Region
  • Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent (40 hours per week)
  • Start Date: Immediate commencement for suitably qualified candidates

Remuneration

  • Competitive hourly rates: $35–$45 per hour, commensurate with experience.
