RobLawMax Recruitment is proud to be partnering with Lyttelton Engineering, a well-established engineering and fabrication business located at their dockside workshop in Lyttelton, to recruit a CAD Designer / Drafter to join their engineering team.
This role has arisen due to increasing project demand with some exciting and innovative decarbonisation projects and is open for candidates seeking either a permanent or fixed term full time role.
The position would suit either an experienced draughtsperson with strong 3D modelling capability or a graduate mechanical engineer (2–3 years’ experience) who enjoys working in a design and drafting-focused role.
The Role
Working closely with the Engineering Design Supervisor, design and project engineers and our hands-on workshop teams, you will develop 3D models and detailed fabrication drawings that support the delivery of mechanical engineering projects – primarily boiler plants, process piping solutions and associated structures and accessways.
Key responsibilities include:
- 3D modelling of mechanical assemblies using SolidWorks
- 3D modelling of piping systems
- 3D modelling of supporting structures for mechanical and heat plant.
- Producing detailed workshop drawings for fabrication
- Preparing DXF files for CNC cutting
- Supporting engineers with design development and documentation
- Engaging with workshop teams to ensure designs are practical and buildable
- Managing drawing and model storage within the engineering system
About You
We are interested in candidates who bring:
- Strong 3D CAD modelling capability (SolidWorks preferred)
- Experience producing workshop fabrication drawings
- Mechanical engineering, drafting or design qualification (or equivalent experience)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively with engineers and tradespeople
Experience with structural steel, piping, pressure equipment or heavy mechanical assemblies would be beneficial but is not essential.
What’s on Offer
