We are seeking a skilled and motivated Project Engineer to join a client based in Gisborne or Napier for a permanent or fixed-term contract working on major civil infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will have proven expertise in concrete structures and be adept at managing mid to large-scale projects within New Zealand. This role requires strong collaboration skills, technical proficiency, and comprehensive knowledge of relevant construction legislation and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and delivery alongside PM's.
  • Collaborate with clients, subcontractors, consultants, and internal project teams.
  • Manage detailed project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans.
  • Provide technical guidance to ensure compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
  • Ensure adherence to NZS3910 and NZS3916.
  • Monitor site activities, identify potential issues early; implement corrective actions promptly while maintaining safety standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives.

Core Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working on mid to large-scale civil engineering projects within New Zealand.
  • Strong understanding of New Zealand construction legislation including the Construction Contracts Act - Practical application knowledge of NZS3910 & NZS3916 contract specifications.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams including clients’ representatives and subcontractors.

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience working on council infrastructure contracts within New Zealand context.
  • A keenness to develop into PM or Contracts Manager in the next year or two.
  • You are happy to work remotely or travel NZ regularly to deliver a range of projects.
