Our client is a respected commercial construction contractor with a strong pipeline of multi-storey projects throughout Wellington's CBD. Known for delivering complex refurbishments, structural upgrades, seismic strengthening and commercial developments, they continue to secure repeat work from established developers and property owners across the region.

They are seeking a Project Manager who understands the realities of commercial construction in New Zealand. This role is suited to someone who has worked through the ranks and knows how to navigate programme pressure, subcontractor management, variations, client expectations and the challenges that come with delivering complex projects in live urban environments.

Formal qualifications are not essential. Practical experience, commercial awareness and the ability to successfully deliver projects are what matter most.

The Role

You will take ownership of project delivery from commencement through to handover across a portfolio of Wellington CBD commercial construction projects. Working closely with site teams, subcontractors and clients, you will manage project programmes, commercial performance and day-to-day delivery to ensure projects are completed safely, on time and within budget.

Projects typically range from $5M to $30M in value and involve site teams of up to 40 personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead project delivery from planning through to completion.
  • Manage subcontractors, labour-only crews and site resources.
  • Monitor project budgets, forecasts and financial performance.
  • Manage procurement, contract administration and variations.
  • Develop and maintain project programmes and look-ahead plans.
  • Coordinate consultants, suppliers and key stakeholders.
  • Identify and manage project risks and opportunities.
  • Maintain strong client relationships throughout project delivery.

About You

You may currently be a Project Manager, Senior Site Manager, Construction Manager or Quantity Surveyor looking to step into a broader delivery role.

You will bring:

  • Commercial construction experience within New Zealand.
  • Strong understanding of project financials and commercial outcomes.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and site-based teams.
  • Confidence delivering challenging projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of construction sequencing and methodologies.
  • Ability to use modern project management and construction software.
  • Practical problem-solving skills and a proactive approach.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills.

What's On Offer

  • $140,000 - $160,000 pa, or an hourly rate can be dicsussed. If permanently employed a vehicle may be considered.

  • Typical working week of 40-50 hours.
