Are you a Registered Electrician looking to move into a more technical, specialist role?
We’re recruiting a UPS Engineer for UPS Power Solutions, one of New Zealand’s leading providers of critical power and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) solutions.
You don’t need previous UPS experience. If you’re technically sharp, enjoy fault finding and want to develop beyond traditional electrical work, UPS Power Solutions will train you in UPS systems, battery systems, commissioning and critical-power support.
The role
Working as part of the Auckland engineering team, you’ll be involved in:
- Planned maintenance, fault finding and repairs
- Installation and commissioning of UPS and battery systems
- Electrical and technical diagnostics
- Site acceptance and witness testing
- Laptop/software-based configuration and diagnostics
- Customer support across a variety of commercial and industrial sites
- A mix of service, project and installation work
It’s a hands-on field role where you’ll gradually build the capability to work independently across increasingly complex critical-power systems. The formal pathway starts with servicing across UPS models and commissioning systems up to 200 kVA.
While it’s still hands-on, this is generally clean, technical work - a chance to use your electrical skills without going home covered in dust and dirt at the end of the day.
About you
You’ll need to be a NZ Registered Electrician with a strong technical mindset and an interest in learning a specialist field.
Ideally, you’ll bring commercial, industrial, service or maintenance experience, but electricians from other backgrounds will also be considered if you have the right aptitude.
You’ll also need:
- A current NZ driver's licence
- Good electrical fault-finding skills
- Confidence using computers and technology
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- A practical, self-managing approach
- The ability to work safely both independently and within a team
- The ability to pass criminal background checks as required by customer sites
Existing UPS, critical power, generator or industrial electrical experience would be highly regarded but isn't essential. The JD confirms NZ Registered Electrician status as a requirement.

- $46–$55/hr depending on experience
- Paid overtime at a minimum of 1.5x
- $420/week allowance when rostered on call

There is some regional travel, typically around 3–5 nights per month, shared across the team. Once trained and competent, you'll also join the on-call roster.
Most importantly, there's a genuine technical career path. UPS Power Solutions has a defined progression from UPS Engineer → Lead Engineer → Senior Engineer → FSE Team Lead, based on increasing technical capability, leadership and commercial experience.
